This may not be new news but PolyGeek has made a video player in Flash that is insanely easy to create. http://polygeek.com/videomaru/
But thats not what I want to focus on now. Take a look at the video on that page of how you create a custom video player. It’s pretty easy? One of the first comments he received was, “That’s incredible. How do you think of these things?”. His reply was, “I sort of reverse engineered it. I started with how I would like it to work, in a perfect world, and then figured out a way to make that happen.”
I forget this sometimes when designing. I don’t ever want to limit myself to the tools or current canned offering.
Hi Judah, thanks for the post and kind words. I look forward to reading more of your blog.
I’ve also had spotted VideoMaru work by PolyGeek recently and I loved it!
He nailed a problem 100% correctly IMHO, presenting the video on the web by using Flash IDE and SWF format should be as easy as presenting an image in HTML.
He is a star, undoubtedly, that’s why he will present VideoMaru at MAX 2007, not me :)
BTW, there is a speculation in Flex community that VideoMaru ~= new project from Adobe codenamed “Thermo”, thus the competition in this area is getting tight.
